During this two-hour class, children and parents will take on different challenges. Young engineers will build electrical circuits to light up their haunted houses, while parents will learn to use design software and laser-cut the walls.

Then comes the fun part: bringing everything together to create a one-of-a-kind, glowing Halloween haunted house!

Designed for students in Kindergarten through Grade 4, this special trial class is a chance for families to explore, create, and learn together.

Build a Haunted House That Lights Up!

From simple materials to a glowing creation.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to build your own miniature haunted house? In this workshop, families will start from scratch! From designing and cutting the walls to building electrical circuits and adding Halloween decorations, every part of the house will be created through hands-on activities.

And when everything comes together, flip the switch and watch your haunted house light up!

What makes this workshop special? Parents and children each have an important role to play.

Young Engineers: Light Up the House!

Kids' Challenge: Build an Electrical Circuit

Every glowing haunted house needs a working electrical circuit! With guidance from MGA instructors, students will explore basic electronic components, learn how circuits work, and build their own lighting systems.

To make the experience appropriate for different ages, we offer two levels:

EP1

Kindergarten – Grade 1

Young learners will explore the basics of electricity, identify simple electronic components, and practice connecting a circuit to light up their houses.

EP3

Grades 2–4

Older students will take on a more advanced circuit-building challenge. They'll test their connections, troubleshoot problems, and make adjustments until their lighting systems work as planned.

Along the way, students will practice problem-solving, logical thinking, and the hands-on skills that engineers use every day.

Parents, It's Your Turn to Create!

Parents' Challenge: Design and Laser-Cut the Walls

Usually, it's the kids who come to MGA for class. This time, parents get to join the learning experience too! Parents will step into our makerspace and learn to use design software to create the walls of their haunted houses.

Want to add mysterious windows, a spooky front door, or some unique Halloween details? It's your design, so get creative!

Once the designs are ready, we'll use MGA's laser cutter to turn digital drawings into physical pieces ready for assembly. It's a fun opportunity for parents to experience the process of turning an idea on a computer into something they can actually build.

Teamwork Time: Bring Your Haunted House to Life!

When kids' circuits meet parents' designs…

Now it's time to put everything together! Children will bring their completed circuits, parents will bring their custom-designed walls, and together they'll assemble their haunted houses.

Of course, no Halloween creation is complete without decorations! We'll provide colorful pipe cleaners, pom-poms, twine, and other craft materials so families can add their own creative touches.

Will yours be a friendly ghost's cottage or a mysterious haunted mansion? Every family's creation will be a little different!

Once everything is ready, turn on the lights and see your haunted house come to life!

Young Designers: Show Off Your Creations!

The Final 30 Minutes: A Mini Design Showcase

At the end of the workshop, each child will have an opportunity to introduce their haunted house to the group. What did they create? Which part are they most proud of? Did they face any challenges along the way?

There's no need for a formal presentation. We simply want students to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and celebrating what they've accomplished.

At MGA, we believe learning doesn't end when a project is finished. Explaining ideas, reflecting on challenges, and sharing accomplishments are all important parts of the creative process.

By the end of the afternoon, students will take home not only a handmade Halloween creation but also the experience of bringing their own ideas to life.
